Mute or leave a channel
Quiet a busy channel without leaving it, or step out entirely — and why some channels can't be left.
There’s a difference between “this channel is too chatty” and “this channel isn’t for me.” Lumicura handles both.
Mute: stay in, stop the pings
Muting keeps you in the channel — you can still open it and read everything — but notifications stop for the length you choose (an hour, a day, a week, or until you unmute).
- Open the channel.
- Open its channel settings (tap the channel name).
- Choose Mute notifications and pick how long.
Two things to know:
- Mentions still get through. If someone @mentions you in a muted channel, you’re notified — muting quiets the crowd, not the messages aimed at you.
- Muting is per-channel. For app-wide quiet, use quiet hours instead — see Choose what you get notified about.
Prefer a summary over silence? Set the channel to digest in the same settings — activity rolls into one daily email-style recap instead of disappearing.
Leave: step out entirely
Leaving removes the channel from your list. Open the channel’s settings and choose Leave channel. You can generally rejoin later if you change your mind.
Why some channels can’t be left
Channels tied to who you are — your child’s grade channel, a committee you’re on, any school-wide channel — are managed automatically. You can’t leave them, because the school relies on them reaching every family they apply to. You can always mute them or set them to digest.
