Add a nametag so people know who you are
Set a per-channel nickname — like "Josie's mom" — that shows beside your real name, so the class channel knows which kid is yours.
In a channel of thirty parents, “Sam Rivera” tells nobody whose parent you are. A nametag is a small label — “Josie’s mom,” “room parent,” “carpool #3” — shown beside your real name in one channel, so the room can place you.
Add or change your nametag
- Open the channel.
- On a phone, tap the channel name to open Channel details; on a computer, open the Members panel.
- Under How you appear here, type your nickname and tap Save. Use Remove to clear it.
A few ground rules:
- It’s per channel. “Josie’s mom” in the 3rd-grade channel, “gala decorations” in the gala channel — each channel has its own, and most can stay blank.
- It never replaces your real name. The nametag renders beside your name, so everyone can still see who you actually are.
- It’s screened. Nametags run through your school’s blocked-terms list, and a moderator can clear one that doesn’t belong.
- No nametags in direct messages — those are real-names-only by design.
Titles are the school’s version
You may also see labels like “PTA President” or “Room Parent Coordinator” beside some names, in every channel. Those are titles — set by the school for a person, not something you edit yourself. If your role deserves one, ask your school admin.
