Cancel or change a sign-up

Plans change. How to release a shift you can't make — or switch to a different one — so someone else can take your spot.

Signed up for Saturday setup and then Saturday happened? Cancel or switch in the app — it takes a few seconds, and it immediately reopens your spot for another family.

Cancel a sign-up

  1. Open VolunteeringMy shifts.
  2. Find the shift you can’t make.
  3. Choose Cancel sign-up and confirm.

Your spot reopens instantly for someone else. That’s the whole point of cancelling in the app rather than just not showing up — the organizer sees real numbers, and another family gets the chance.

Switch to a different shift

Switching is just the two steps back to back: cancel the shift you can’t make, then sign up for the one you can — see Find and sign up for a shift. Do the cancel first if the two overlap.

The earlier, the kinder

The app lets you cancel right up until the shift, but a spot released three days out gets refilled; a spot released twenty minutes before doesn’t. If you’re cancelling very late — or you’ve already missed the start — message the organizer directly too, so they can plan around it.

After you cancel

The shift disappears from My shifts, and no credit is created (credit comes from attending, not from signing up). If you canceled by mistake, sign up again — assuming your spot hasn’t been snapped up already.
