Send a message and react
Posting in a channel, reacting with emoji, read receipts and typing indicators — the everyday mechanics of Lumicura chat.
Once you’re in a channel, messaging works the way you’d hope. Here’s the everyday toolkit.
Send a message
- Open the channel from Messages.
- Type in the compose box at the bottom. You can attach a photo or file with the attachment button.
- Send. Your message appears instantly for everyone in the channel.
(Official school news doesn’t come through channels at all — it lives in the read-mostly Announcements feed. See How channels work.)
React with emoji
Long-press (or hover over) any message and pick an emoji. Reactions are the polite workhorse of parent channels: twelve 👍 on “pickup moved to 3:15” beats twelve messages saying “ok!”. Tap an existing reaction to add yours to the count.
Read receipts and typing indicators
You’ll see when messages have been read and when someone’s typing — handy in a “waiting to hear back about the field trip” moment. It works both ways: others can see the same about you.
A few notes on etiquette (and reality)
- Everyone in the channel sees your message — a channel is a room, not a whisper. Check the member list if you’re unsure who’s in the room.
- Need one specific person? Mention them so it cuts through their notification settings — see Mention someone.
- Keep it kind. Channels are moderated spaces run by your school; messages that cross the line can be hidden — see Why a message was hidden.
If a message won’t send
Almost always a connection issue — check for the offline banner. Lumicura doesn’t queue messages to send later, so if it didn’t post, send it again once you’re back online. See Using Lumicura offline.
